| The northeast corner of Washington's Olympic Peninsula is known as the "banana belt". This is due to our being in the rainshadow of the Olympic Mountains and to our mild coastal climate. To test whether one could really grow bananas here, I planted a banana tree ("hearty" variety) and trained a webcam on it. The webcam snaps one frame per day -- at night so there's less chance of wind and so I can control the lighting. Each frame is uploaded daily to this website and added to the animation sequence. Hopefully, over time, you'll be able to watch my little banana tree grow -- or die -- whichever! |

| There are currently 147 frames in the animation. JavaScript must be enabled to see it. Press PLAY if it doesn't start by itself. And if you're the type who just likes watching paint dry, you can go to the former "3D OfficeCam" site and see the latest snapshots, taken at 15-minute intervals! |
